Latinx Design Directory is an open directory of Latina/Latino/Latinx designers and technologists, with ongoing editorial features of talent spotlights, created in an effort to highlight Latinx creatives in design and tech.
This thesis is a dense user experience and interface design project created through the lens of my Latina identity and culture.

QUOTE HOVER: hovering over a member quote reveals vibrant, playful shapes.
I expanded the directory to include editorial features of members to highlight the professional contributions the Latinx community is bringing to the design and tech discourse. For the debut, I wrote about why I created the directory, and I interviewed Colombian graphic designer and illustrator, Katty Huertas, about Colombian folk stories and magic realism.
Along the way, I established and maintained a design system for this directory in which I created a dedicated Figma file that houses all the latest versions of the directory UI.
Two weeks before our grad show, MICA was forced to close, cancel all campus events, and transition to a virtual format, due to COVID-19 and the unforeseen pandemic. Although I wasn't able to exhibit the way I wanted, I tried an alternative – a "digital opening." My version of that was going on Instagram Live to talk about the directory, my inspiration behind it, why I did it, and what the response has been since launching, as well as answering questions from viewers.
I hoped for a positive response and appreciation from my immediate community, but I could never have imagined the amount of support I received on launch day. I was accepting applications from creatives I've admired from afar, words of encouragement and admiration for the directory from people I'd never met before, and messages from people telling me how important this work is to the Latinx community. What I felt then and now is pure gratitude and a sense of hope that this community will continue to expand and flourish.
A quote from one of our directory members that beautifully captures being both a designer and a Latinx.
