Isabel Uria

Where is your hometown?

I am originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador. I’ve lived in Bolivia for almost 7 years, a summer in France, and the last 5 years in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Where did you attend undergraduate school and what was your major?
I graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, in Ohio, with a degree in Visual Communication Design.

Do you have any particular interests?

Besides design, I have become a self-taught paper-engineer. This means I can make all sorts of pop-up cards, spreads for pop-up books, and other foldable three-dimensional paper pieces. I’m still learning quite a bit, but I think (for me) the world of design and the world of pop-ups are connected! Due to this fact, I am also very much in-love with out-of-the-ordinary package designs, and all kinds of physically interactive design works.

What are your favorite typeface(s) and why?
Do you identify with any particular designer? Why?
Why have you chosen MICA to further your graphic design education?
